Postura Healthcare, founded in 2007 by John Tuton, has its roots in the specialist field of medical equipment used within orthopaedics, spinal rehabilitation and wound care. At these extreme ends of healthcare and life support, posture, comfort, pressure relief and healing have never had such huge implications on human life.
Using clinical evidence from the Department of Health on the benefits of today’s most innovative and supportive mattress materials, the team at Postura has combined expertise, knowledge and evidence to produce a range of mattresses that are now available to a wider audience.
In 2004 I went through months of pain, torment and sleepless nights. I had gathered up the ball following a chip through from the opposition’s fly-half, only to then be picked up and dumped by the opposition prop: A chap twice my size, or so I like to maintain for story telling purposes.
The thanks for my try preventing heroics was a smashed up rib cage. I was immobile, could not work, could not sleep, but still had pressure of paying the mortgage and contributing to the household. I went through some very dark days during my recovery.
It was at this time I fully appreciated the implications of sleep, recovery, posture, support and healing. During the night I was in pain from every angle and every position. To my surprise I could not find anything on the market to help me during the night. Traditional springs and even memory foam where simply not good enough.
At the time I was working in the medical industry within spinal rehabilitation and pressure area / wound care. I was very fortunate to have access to some of the worlds most leading materials designed to relieve pressure and support the spine. I had a high-specification polymer material made up 6”deep specifically for me (and the miss’us) and my bed. It had never been been made for this use before. It was simply magic, and as a result I was no longer disturbing Jennifer during the night. Postura Healthcare was born.
It took a further 2 years to find the right quality fabrics to envelop the high-specification polymer. Traditional cottons and quilting methods where simply not up to the job.
